Names admission requirements
**Applications for fall enrollment each year are due by 31 May**
All candidates must submit formal applications to the University. Candidates will either by accepted directly or be invited to conduct an oral interview (distance interviews can be arranged upon request). Selection criteria include:
• BA degree with GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
• Non-native speakers of English or those who do not have a degree from an English medium university are required to have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (or equivalent) for full-time enrollment in the program; applicants with scores between 500 and 549 may enroll in the AUI Language Center on either a full time or part-time basis. During their English language training they cannot take any content courses, but may, if they so desire, take Arabic language courses.
• While there are no language requirements for admission to the NAMES program, ideally candidates will have taken one year of Arabic or other relevant research language prior to arriving at AUI. Incoming NAMES students interested in gaining proficiency in Arabic are encouraged to enroll in intensive Arabic in AUI's Arabic and North African Studies Summer Program (www.aui.ma/arabic) prior to beginning the NAMES program.
