The Upanzi Network, in collaboration with MicroSave Consulting (MSC), has initiated an exciting new opportunity for African university students: a series of regional hackathons focused on exploring innovative applications for digital identity (ID) across the continent.

The initiative aims to leverage the creativity and expertise of students to develop impactful use cases for digital ID in sectors vital to Africa's development, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and access to public services.

As part of this initiative, an info session will be held on November 21st from 1:00 to 2:00 PM during the Symposium on Cybersecurity and Digital Identity for Africa. This session will not only mark the official launch of the Northern and Southern Africa Digital ID Hackathons but will also provide an open forum to address questions and offer insights into the hackathons' goals and processes.

What Makes These Hackathons Unique?
Participants will face the exciting challenge of conceptualizing and developing high-impact solutions that address pressing issues in their communities using digital ID technology. These solutions could range from improving patient identification in healthcare to streamlining access to government services, ensuring inclusivity and efficiency.

Al Akhawayn University's Role

With its commitment to fostering innovation and excellence, Al Akhawayn University (AUI) encourages its students to actively participate in this regional initiative. This event offers AUI students an unparalleled opportunity to showcase their skills, collaborate with peers across Africa, and contribute meaningfully to digital transformation on the continent.

This is more than a competition—it’s a platform for young minds to pioneer change and tackle real-world challenges through technology.
