Founded in 1993 by Royal Dahir (decree), Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane opened its doors to students in January 1995. Based on the principles of diversity and an international outlook, the university's mission is driven by values of human solidarity and tolerance. Al Akhawayn has modeled its administrative, pedagogical, and academic organization on the American university system, and English is the language of instruction. Still, in its infancy, the university has already developed a national and international reputation for its unique identity and potential.
Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane is an independent, public, not-for-profit, coeducational, Moroccan university committed to educating future citizen-leaders of Morocco and the world through a globally oriented, English -language, liberal arts curriculum based on the American system. The University enhances Morocco and engages the world through leading-edge educational and research programs, including continuing and executive education upholds the highest academic and ethical standards and promotes equity and social responsibility.

Setting the University’s goals and direction for upcoming years is fundamental to achieving the sustained success of the whole community it comprises and AUI’s new Strategic Plan (2020-2025) was developed in consultation with a large part of the community: students, staff, professors, alumni as well as the Board of Trustees.
AUI’s vision for 2025 places the university as a beacon in the Middle East and Africa as a Liberal Arts teaching model adapted to the 21st century with the motto “Better Value on Investment”.

Our students' comfort, well-being and safety are paramount. The campus’ perfect setting offers excellent facilities for their overall emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth. There are about 10 sports clubs and over 40 student organizations, 3 student publications and a media outlet.
Our campus provides a wealth of services for our students, faculty and staff to make life easier - from banking needs through the ATM to IT support with ITS, health care at the center or counseling options when needed; not forgetting housekeeping, copy and shuttle services too. Security is provided around-the-clock onsite as well.
Ifrane
Ifrane, the second cleanest city in the world, is nestled in the beautiful Middle Atlas mountains, whose parks, cedar and oak forests, waterfalls, and rich wildlife provide a beautiful setting for hiking excursions, horseback riding, skiing, fishing, and many other activities all year round, just minutes away from town.
Whether you're looking for outdoor activities, dining establishments, hotels or even campgrounds - Ifrane has it all! From the bustling weekly market to luxurious hammams; one hour from Imperial Fez and Meknes cities two and half hours away from Rabat capital city or three-and-a-half hours drive to Casablanca - your own little paradise awaits in the heart of Morocco.
Mohammed VI Library
This impressive building is a popular destination for students who wish to take their studies to greater heights. At our library, we welcome study groups as well as host various educational events - all designed with one purpose in mind; helping you gain access to and use the information towards furthering your learning experience while on campus.
The Mohammed VI Library, housing over 336K books combined with electronic resources from OneSearch like e-books totaling more than 200K volumes gives mounds of knowledge sure to please even the most ardent scholar’s desires.
