Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) has recognized the importance of strategic planning since its early years. The first plan spread over the period 2004-2009 and delineated broad and ambitious goals and outlined university values after a thorough SWOT analysis. The University’s second strategic plan covered the period 2010-2014 and involved all units of the University in identifying its seven priorities. The third strategic plan (2015-2020) reflected over two years of hard work and a process that included input from numerous individuals across the entire organization including the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The result was a strategic plan that reflected our values as well as our aspirations and guided the institution’s development over the period 2015-2020.

The plan recognized the priorities laid out in the previous plan and aimed to build on our achievements. It reviewed the position of the University, noting strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and the emergence of a challenging and competitive environment. Six priorities were set:

  • 1. Student Learning, Development, and Success;
  • 2. Quality Assurance and Enhancement;
  • 3. Internationalization;
  • 4. Advancement for Growth and Sustainability;
  • 5. Research, Innovation and Discovery;
  • 6. More Effective Communication.

AUI’s new Strategic Plan (2020-2025) was launched in the Fall of 2020, with Spring 2020 serving as a transition semester. The new plan was developed in consultation with a large part of the community: students, staff, professors, alumni as well as the Board of Trustees. The plan represents a new vision for the university for 2025 and articulates as follows: AUI will be a beacon in the Middle East and Africa as a “Liberal Arts” teaching model adapted to the 21st century with practical and sustainable value - Better Value on Investment.

The 2020-2025 strategic plan has six main pillars and two transversal pillars. The main pillars are as follows:

  • 1. AUI as the microcosm of ideal Morocco;
  • 2. AUI as a beacon for a «Liberal Arts» teaching model, meeting the challenges and seizing the opportunities of the 21st century;
  • 3. AUI geared towards student experience and success;
  • 4. AUI as a preferred partner for the corporate world and the main provider for the public sector;
  • 5. AUI’s brand image was elevated and liberated for increased enrollment;
  • 6. AUI’s aim is for financial and environmental exemplarity and institutional sustainability.

As for the two transversal pillars, they establish:

  • T1) Support services as key enablers of the vision;
  • T2) Strong shared governance and institutional effectiveness
