AUROBAT 24, Another Incredible Success of the National Robotics Competition

Al Akhawayn University (AUI) hosted the fourth edition of the Moroccan Robotics Competition, AUROBAT 2024, on May 31st and June 1st. Co-organized by CITI Association, ATDTec, and the AUI Mechatronics Club, the event brought together 30 teams from across Morocco, including middle schools and universities. Participants were tasked with designing ladybug-inspired robots to achieve specific challenges. With a cash prize pool of 32,000 MAD, the competition fostered collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation. The event was supported by sponsors such as HPS Foundation, CIH Bank, and AUI’s Schools of Business Administration and Science & Engineering, highlighting the growing importance of robotics education in Morocco and inspiring future technological advancements.

AUI Team Wins Gold at the Moroccan National Programming Contest 2024

The AUI team "Fat Fouad Transform," composed of Nabil Boudra, Omer Ismail, and Abderrahmane Hana, won the Moroccan National Programming Contest (MNPC) on February 23-24, 2025, by solving 7 out of 12 problems with the fewest penalties. Competing against 58 teams from 45 institutions, the team earned the gold medal and a cash prize of 30,000 MAD. The event, hosted at UM6P Benguerir and organized by the Moroccan Association for Computing Sciences (MACS), was led by AUI alum Sidi Ali Maelainin. The trophy and medals were awarded by UM6P and MACS representatives, many of whom are AUI alumni. This victory adds to AUI’s legacy of success and is made special by the inclusion of international student Omer Ismail from Sudan, showcasing the university's diversity and academic excellence.

AUI Mechatronics Team Shines: National Champions and Global Competitors at VEX Robotics

Al Akhawayn University’s (AUI) mechatronics team continues to excel, securing first place at the VEX Robotics competition held in March at ENSIAS in Rabat. This national victory highlights their expertise in robotics and their ability to tackle complex technological challenges. Representing Morocco on the global stage, the team also participated in the VEX Robotics Internationals at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, at the end of April. This prestigious international competition allowed them to compete against top teams from around the world, further enhancing AUI’s visibility and reputation in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

Congratulations to Yahya El Alami, Nassima Benrahmoune, and Zaynab Mensou, students in the Master of Arts in International Studies & Diplomacy at AUI, for winning first prize in the AmCham Morocco Water Forum 2022 Competition with their outstanding short film. The competition, aimed at raising awareness about water conservation in Morocco, challenged participants to create impactful films addressing critical water issues. AUI's Sustainability Club Won the 2022 PRME Global Students’ Sustainability Awards. The PRME Global Students Sustainability Awards - Africa is an annual recognition of impactful student-led initiatives that align with the PRME Principles and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  This was achieved thanks to the outstanding work that was accomplished by the sustainability club, a series of activities including a very rich sustainability international week, a series of speakers, presentations, workshops, stands, and educational trips; all with the goal to promote sustainability in our campus and its surroundings. Students who made it happen include board members and student volunteers: Youssef Bouhaja, Badre Eddine Hajjaj, Carisa Vilella, Fatima Zohra Belhadj, Loubna El Hafidi, Imane Chtaini, Hiba Draoui.
