The Soul of AUI: The Essence of a Liberal Arts Education

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences provides all AUI students with a foundation in the liberal arts anchored in the values, culture, history, and future aspirations of the people of Morocco and the region. In addition to the general education program, it offers several majors and minors in applied humanities and social sciences where students learn to build, connect, and lead a better world.

SHSS offers curriculum and pedagogy that build students’ capacities to learn, think, read, speak, write, analyze, discover, decide, create, communicate, and act, critically and ethically.

SHSS contributes to every AUI student’s course of learning with rigorous training in the human and social sciences, arts, and letters that builds their character and personality as dynamic leaders, changemakers, creators, and problem-solvers for the 21st century and beyond, able to draw on local and global knowledge with confidence, humility, courage, and responsibility.

A community of thinkers and doers, inspirers and transformers, scholars and creators.

Advising

Al Akhawayn University, in keeping with its philosophy, provides a flexible and visible system of advising to help you work towards your academic degree. You will be assigned and required to see an academic advisor, but you can also choose from a variety of advising resources.  The advising philosophy at AUI is one of facilitating and teaching students how to make informed choices about their education.

Academic advising and planning are not separate from the reflective processes students engage in when evaluating their own performance in an academic program. Ideally; this process gives students the tools to assess not only the content of their academic work but also their intentions and academic goals. Students who seek out academic advising will most likely be presented with a series of questions about their goals, interests, skills, and weaknesses and then be offered a range of academic options to help them make informed choices about their academic futures.

Internship

Internships, or on-the-job education and training, are designed to be an important part of a student’s undergraduate experience as they provide an opportunity to experience the world of government, politics, business, and public service from the inside, as well as to give practical application to the knowledge and skills acquired at AUI.

To complete the requirements for graduation, all SHSS students are required to complete an INT4300 Internship - Semester Credit Hours -  preferably in the summer.
