The Master of Arts in International Studies & Diplomacy (MAISD) program provides students with a strong theoretical background and the analytical skills essential to gaining an understanding of international issues and events.

The program draws upon the expertise of Al Akhawayn University faculty from different disciplines and professionals from the field. Students of the MAISD have the opportunity to interact with students and faculty members from many countries.

MAISD students will be able to participate in international conferences held on campus and benefit from guest lectures by many renowned experts in international affairs and diplomatic relations.

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the MAISD program will be able to demonstrate knowledge of international studies and diplomacy, analyze critically contemporary issues around the world, write critically and analytically on local, international, and global issues, read critically materials on world politics, and assess the theoretical orientation of the author (s).

Master of Arts in International Studies & Diplomacy Admission requirements

Admission requirements

All applicants to the MAISD program will be evaluated through AUI's official admission process. Candidates who are not accepted directly may be invited to an interview, either in person or via Skype.

Selection criteria include:
  • A bachelor's degree with GPA of 3.0 or equivalent;
  • Non-native speakers of English or those who do not have a degree from an English medium university are required to have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (or equivalent) for full-time enrollment in the program. Applicants, which scores between 500 and 549 may enroll in the AUI Language Center on either a full-time or part-time basis. During their English language training, they cannot take any content courses but may take Arabic language courses;
  • Moroccan students have to demonstrate at least intermediate-level language proficiency in Arabic upon admission or by the end of the program.

Degree requirements

The MAISD program allows incoming students to complete it in one calendar year. Students who need foundation courses may take a longer time to complete the program. The MAISD related course will also replace concentrations, as they are currently redundant.
