Dr. Djallil Lounnas completed his PhD in Political Science in 2010 from Université de Montreal in Canada. His PhD dissertation dealt with the Iranian nuclear crisis. More specifically, he analyzed how the United States dealt with the European Union, Russia, and China to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. From January 2011 to August 2012, Dr. Lounnas was an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the School of Governance and Economics of Rabat and then joined, in January 2013, Al Akhawayn University. His research is mainly focused on Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and how this originally Algerian organization has become, within a few years, the strongest Al Qaeda affiliate.
