Dr. Abid started as a lecturer of Computer Science in 2000 after graduating with a Master of Science in Computer Science from Al Akhawayn University. In 2006, he received the Fulbright Excellence scholarship and joined Auburn University, USA, for a PhD in Computer Science, and earned it in 2010. In 2017, he received a Fulbright Research Scholarship to join the University of Houston (USA), where he lectured and did research. He is a USA National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Arab-American fellow. In 2018, he received a NAS scholarship to join Purdue university (USA) researching venues to implement a “joint African Smart Cities center” with emphasis on Energy-efficiency and renewable energy integration. Dr. Abid is the PI (Principle Investigator) of a USAID-PEER sponsored project (#5-398) on “Renewable Energy Integration into Smart Buildings." Dr. Abid is fond of coaching. He was awarded, for six consecutive years (2014’, 15’, 16’, 17’, 18’, 19’), the first prize as a coach, at the National Moroccan Programming Competition (MCPC) contest organized by the Moroccan-ACM (Association for Computer Machinery), and qualified twice to the ACM Programming World Finals (2015’ in Marrakech, and 2018’ in Beijing).
