Job Overview:


The Coordinator of the First-Year Experience Program is a full-time position reporting to the Manager of the Center for Learning Excellence. The coordinator’s job is to oversee the day-to-day planning and implementation of FYE Program initiatives and projects in close collaboration with CLE underlying units.

The FirstYear Experience Program Coordinator serves as a key-role in helping students transition into college through the
different aspects of the FYE Program.

Main Responsibilities:

• Lead the planning, coordination, implementation, and advertising of the New Student Orientation program for undergrad degree seeking students.
• Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of all FYE extra-curricular activities, including but not limited to an annual calendar of social, career development, academic enrichment, and life skills workshops/events.
• Lead the planning process of FYE seminar offerings each semester.
• Coordinate with Registrar Office to offer an adequate number of FYE 1101 and FYE 1102 sections each semester.
• Perform periodic checks of the progression of each new cohort of students and make sure that all students are enrolled in both FYE 1101 and FYE 1102 in a timely manner.
• Maintain an active channel of communication with FYE students through email and other means.
• Collaborate with various offices and other units on campus (Student Affairs units, Career Services, Academic
Affairs departments, etc.) to assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of various joint programs relative to the success of students.
• Supervise Peer Mentors and assist in providing orientation and training for mentors and mentees whenever applicable.
• Compile data and complete statistical reports of student participation and attendance in all program components to the extent possible.
• Oversee media coverage and social media outlets geared towards first year students.
• Serve as chaperone for off-campus activities, community service and cultural events sponsored by the FirstYear Experience Program.
Provide assistance with developing, coordinating, and implementing other programs, special projects, activities and events assigned to the wider CLE structure.
• Perform all other relevant duties as assigned.
• Assist or leading the hiring processes of student part-timers and student admins.
• Assist with the coordination of FYE 1101 & FYE 1102: topics, schedules, instructors’ evaluation etc. 

 

Qualification and Professional Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree from a liberal-arts English-speaking institution.
• Proven full-time or part-time experience with student success services.
Personal and Behavioral characteristics:
• Good knowledge of modern administrative practices, procedures, and equipment
• Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
• Fluent in Arabic; basic French.
• Very good organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Adaptability and flexibility.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional and effective relationships with a wide variety of people; tact; courtesy; dependability; good judgment.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information obtained through the course
of completing assignments (e.g., and personnel-related issues, projects).
• Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software.
