The fourth edition of the International Symposium on the Spring of Social Sciences, organized by the University of Al-Akhawayn in Ifrane, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Mohammed V University in Rabat, and the Ibn Khaldun Center for Migration and Citizenship Studies, will be held in person and remotely in the cities of Rabat and Ifrane, during the period of May 13-15, 2024 at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Rabat, and through the electronic platform of the Symposium and Training Center of the University of Al-Akhawayn in Ifrane.
The activities of this scientific symposium, which revolves around the topical issue of "Migration in the Context of Risks and Uncertainties: What Contribution from the Social Sciences?", are distributed across workshops, an opening lecture, scientific seminars, book signing and honoring ceremonies, as well as training workshops in the methodology of scientific research. The coordinators of this major event, which will be attended by researchers in the social sciences from various university institutions from within and outside Morocco, hope that it will contribute to providing spaces for discussion and intellectual debate on migratory dynamics and their socio-cultural expressions, extensions, and psychological, economic, and spatial implications, particularly in the context of risks and uncertainties.
It is worth noting that Professor Khaled Samadi will contribute an opening lecture as part of the activities of this cognitive spring, and a ceremony will be organized to honor Professor Mohammed Noureddine Affaya, Professor of Contemporary Philosophy, and Professor Abdallah Saaf, Professor of Political Science, during the closing session of this fourth edition of the Spring of Social Sciences, in celebration of their distinguished academic careers and in recognition of their constant efforts to enrich the fields of philosophy, thought, arts, political science, and scientific research with works marked by excellence and originality.
This edition will also see the active participation of many researchers from the fields of sociology, anthropology, history, psychology, philosophy, literature, and languages, from Morocco and abroad, from countries such as Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Tunisia, Egypt, Mauritania, Oman, the United States, England, Sweden, Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, within the framework of workshops for presenting works, general scientific seminars, and special training workshops for doctoral student researchers. The Spring of Social Sciences will also witness book signing ceremonies in the social sciences.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the Muqarabat Foundation, in partnership with the Ibn Khaldun Center for Migration and Citizenship Studies, has made an effort to publish eight works for this new edition, which are: "Migration and Value Transformations", "Migration in the Context of Risks and Uncertainty", "Migration and Values" (in French and English), "Sociological Practice in Morocco", "Anthropological Research in Morocco", "Migration Letters", "Anthology of Moroccan Anthropology", and "Fundamentals of Human Geography". These publications have reached the number 30, making the Ibn Khaldun Center for Migration and Citizenship Studies one of the most prominent institutional publishers, according to the latest report on the "State of Publishing and Books in Morocco 2022-2023" issued by the King Abdulaziz Foundation in Casablanca.
Finally, it should be noted that the upcoming edition of the Spring of Social Sciences, which will mark the fifth edition, will have the theme of "Migration and Gender: Dynamics, Intersections, and Narratives", and will be organized in-person during May 2025. This will be among the opening and preparatory activities for the International Sociology Conference that Morocco will host just a few weeks after the fifth edition of the Spring of Social Sciences.
