The African Engineering and Technology Network, led by CMU-Africa, drives inclusive digital transformation on the continent through research, education, and entrepreneurship.

Carnegie Mellon University Africa has announced Al Akhawayn University (AUI) as the eighth member of the African Engineering and Technology Network (Afretec), a collaboration aimed at driving digital growth, technology development, and job creation across Africa.

Afretec focuses on three key goals: developing top-tier tech talent, fostering digital knowledge, and promoting entrepreneurship. Since its launch in 2022, it has awarded $5 million in research grants, created 150+ internships and job opportunities, and introduced cutting-edge educational programs to support Africa’s digital transformation.

AUI’s expertise in AI, robotics, renewable energy, and big data makes it a strategic addition to the network. AUI President Amine Bensaid emphasized the partnership’s potential to empower students and faculty while strengthening Africa’s technology ecosystem.

With members including CMU-Africa, University of Lagos, University of Nairobi, and others, Afretec continues to expand its impact, positioning Africa as a global leader in digital innovation.
