Dr. Hassane Darhmaoui Publishes Article on the Pliability of Misconceptions about Force and Motion Among Moroccan High School Students

Dr. Hassane Darhmaoui, Professor at the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI), recently published an article titled "Force and motion misconceptions' pliability, the case of Moroccan high school students" in The Journal of Educational Research. The paper was co-authored with Dr. Tariq Bouzid and Dr. Fatiha Kaddari, from the Faculty of Science Dhar El Mahraz – Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fes, and published on 29 April 2022. The Journal of Education Research has a 5-year impact factor of 1.951 and a score of 1.36 from Scopus.

The authors investigated the misconceptions Moroccan high school students majoring in science have about force and motion - basic concepts in the study of Physics. The researchers used the Fore Concept Inventory (FCI), which associates a wrong answer with a particular misconception, and chose to study, from a list of misconceptions, the ones they deemed most important. The purpose of the research was to assess where the misconceptions of Moroccan high school students on these two key terms stemmed from and thus, how easily they could be corrected. This research will be helpful in taking preventative action and providing a more effective learning experience in Physics courses.
