Second Language Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century


The Arabic Unit at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Al Akhawayn, in collaboration with the Free State University in South Africa, are happy to announce the international conference titled:

Second Language Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century :

This conference is open to professionals and academic researchers specializing in the field of second language teaching. Participants will have the opportunity to partake in a wide range of professional development sessions and workshops led by experts and peers who share similar interests.

The event will span over three days, taking place from May 23rd to May 25th, 2024. In addition to panels and individual sessions, we will also be offering workshops.

We invite you to submit an abstract through our website. Abstract submissions will be accepted until midnight on December 1st, 2023.

The purpose of this conference is to serve as a platform to showcase the latest advances and best practices in the use of 21st-Century skills, corpus linguistics, digital humanities, and AI technologies in second language instruction. It will allow participants to exchange ideas, share experiences, and collaborate on designing effective strategies and curricula for enhancing second language learning and instruction.

This event will bring together professionals, teachers, academics, policymakers, and curriculum developers to explore innovative techniques that promote independent language learning and equip students with essential 21st-Century skills. The conference will provide a platform to discuss key issues related to the teaching of second languages in the 21st Century. We will explore field research, share best practices, and collaborate on developing new curricula that address the evolving needs of language learners. Attendees can expect a variety of engaging sessions, including individual oral and poster presentations, workshops, panels, round-table discussions, and a world café.We are considering various opportunities for publication, including in reputable and indexed journals, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, or an edited book. Share your latest advances and best practices in the use of 21st-Century skills, corpus linguistics, digital humanities, and AI technologies in second language instruction. Together, we will exchange ideas, share experiences, and collaborate on designing effective strategies and curricula for enhancing second language instruction. To ensure consistency, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Title: Clearly indicate the title of your paper (English or Arabic only).
  • Extended Abstract: Between 700 and 1000 words.
  • Paper content: should reflect both theoretical and practical aspects of the topic you will be discussing in your paper.
