The Canine Unit was created as a proactive measure to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors on campus since AUI is a venue for many large sporting events, conferences, concerts, and another public gatherings.
The canine unit is staffed by well-trained dogs for attack, drug detection, and article searches and tracking of a missing and endangered persons.
Members of the Canine Unit provide the AUI community with 24 hours a day/ seven days-a-week service and may be called upon to perform the following duties:
- Conduct building searches for offenders
- Assist in the inspections
- Reporting “suspicious” articles’
- Area searches to locate suspects or lost or missing persons;
- Provide support to patrolling the campus and off-campus residences.
