Naeem's main interests are in combinatorics and theoretical computer science, particularly enumeration, graph theory, discrete optimization, and algorithms. While being at AUI for over 11 years, he has worked extensively with students in their capstone projects. In particular, for computer science, he has supervised projects in image processing, computer vision, and algorithms, and for engineering students, he has supervised projects in logistics, optimization, and renewable energy.
