Najia El Alami

Najia El Alami received the Master’s degree in Cross-Cultural Studies from Essex University, Great Britain and the Ph.D. degree from the Centre of West African Studies, University of Birmingham, Great Britain. Dr. EL ALAMI worked as Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Al Akhawayn University (SHSS) (1995-2013). While at AUI, she served as Communication Studies Coordinator and Graduate Coordinator of the MAISD program. She was also a founding member of the Hillary Clinton Center for Women’s Empowerment (HCC) and was part of the research team for the Illiteracy Survey conducted in the Middle Atlas region of Ifrane (2000). Dr. El Alami was also the founder and Coordinator of the Moroccan Film Days festival for six editions. She also worked as as Professor at Moulay Ismail University, Faculty of Letters and Humanities, Department of English (2014-2021). She taught various courses, such as Introduction to Cultural Studies, Study Skills, and Introduction to Literature. She is currently working as a Part-time faculty member at SHSS, teaching Communication through Speaking, African Literature, Introduction to Critical Thinking, and Writing for Business courses. She received many awards from the Arab-European Council, The Africa Center, the University Women in Britain, and the award for best thesis, entitled African Women, Literature and Politics. While at AUI, Dr. El Alami taught various courses, both at the graduate and the undergraduate levels on Introduction to Media, Media and Society, Women and Culture, and Professional English. She presented papers in Morocco, South Korea, and Germany. Dr. El Alami participated in various meetings on gender in Egypt, Italy, and Morocco. Her current research interests relate to women cooperatives, sustainability, and literary food studies.
