Dr. Nasser Assem is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and the Academic Coordinator of the undergraduate and graduate Computing programs at Al Akhawayn University. He obtained his PhD in 2002 and an MS in 1995 both in Computer Science from Michigan State University, and an Electrical/Computer Engineering degree in 1988 from the Mohammadia School of Engineering in Rabat. He was a visiting Assistant Professor at Michigan State University from 2002 to 2003. He had worked as a Computer Engineer and IT manager at the Ministry of Public Works in Morocco from 1988 to 1993, before obtaining an American scholarship for graduate studies in the US. His teaching and research interests include Machine Learning, Databases, BI, and Big Data. He holds several IBM certifications in AI, Big Data, and Cloud Computing. He has worked on several R&D projects of national interest. He co-chaired and sat on the organizing and technical committees of various conferences. He has chaired or served in various University and School Committees. He is the current chair of IEEE Morocco.
