Omar Abouelazm

Omar Abouelazm is a dual Egyptian American national, born in Rhode Island in 1987. He received his BA in Linguistics in 2009 from the University of Florida and consequently travelled to Saudi Arabia to teach English at the university level. After two years of work, Abouelazm decided to pursue higher education in Applied Linguistics. Returning to his native Cairo, he received his MA in Applied Linguistics in 2013 with a focus in second language teaching. His research interests include language identity, sociopragmatic functions of language, language and culture, and diaglossia. He has taught in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Algeria. Currently, he is a full-time English lecturer with the Language Center at Alakhawayn University. When he is not working, Omar enjoys playing the oud, cycling and trekking.
