Professor Stefano Bigliardi (SSAH) spent the Spring Break on an academic tour of Nigeria.
At the invitation of Dr. Leo Igwe, scholar and founder of the Humanist Association of Nigeria, who facilitated contacts with Nigerian universities, Dr. Stefano gave a lecture titled "Science, Religion, and Pseudoscience: Lessons and Questions from Teaching" at the University of Ibadan (Faculty of Arts, March 12) and at LASU (Lagos State University, Department of Philosophy, March 18).
The lectures were very well attended, with professors and students participating with comments and questions. The lectures and discussions provided an opportunity for Dr. Stefano to illustrate his scholarship, the content and methodology of the courses on science and religion he teaches at AUI, as well as the history, structure, pedagogy, and other unique features of our university. After the conference at LASU, Dr. Stefano was received by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi.
Dr. Stefano also conducted fieldwork, including interviews and a visit to the Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria, where he interviewed its founder, Mrs. Rose Ekaete Mordi, and other events, including an interview for the radio station of the University of Ibadan (Diamond 101.1 FM, March 13) and a meeting with the Lagos Chapter of the Humanist Association of Nigeria (March 15).
