Dr. Mohammad Abu Zahra – Head of the Middle East Africa (MEA) region at the Global CCS Institute With over 20 years of expertise in Carbon Capture, Dr. Abu Zahra has led pioneering projects in CO₂ capture and CCS integrated systems. Before joining the Institute, he was a project manager, senior process engineer, and key contributor to the UAE’s first dedicated carbon capture research group. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Khalifa University. |

Maryem El Farsaoui joined the Global CCS Institute in November 2023 as the Business Development Lead for the MENA region. With five years of experience in technical and commercial energy advisory, she specializes in low-carbon hydrogen and CCUS, working with key stakeholders like the US Department of Energy and the UAE Ministry of Energy. She has authored policy papers on CCUS and the hydrogen economy and gained market research expertise at the Australian Consulate in Dubai. Maryem holds a Master’s in International Relations from the University of Wollongong in Dubai and began her academic journey at Al Akhawayn University in Morocco. |

Ruth Gebremedhin is the Senior Events and Communications Lead for the EMEA region at the Global CCS Institute, based in London. She joined the Institute in June 2020 and previously worked in the public sector in Toronto, including Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment in media relations and issues management. She later served as a senior manager in banking, focusing on change management communications in compliance and risk. Ruth holds a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Professional Studies from York University and a Certificate in Business Communications from the University of Toronto. |
