Asmaa Mourhir

Dr. Asmaa Mourhir is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Al Akhawayn University, and a permanent member of the ICT, AI, and DX Research Group. She holds a Ph.D. from Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University and has a background in software engineering and environmental decision-support systems.

Dr. Mourhir has over two decades of academic experience as a computer science professor and researcher. Her work focuses on leveraging Artificial Intelligence, Embedded Machine Learning, and Computer Vision to advance Smart Cities and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in urban water management and waste detection.

Dr. Mourhir is also the founder of a pioneering Darija Natural Language Processing (NLP) laboratory, where she leads research on low-resource language technologies for Moroccan Darija. Her work in this area aims to advance language technologies for underrepresented languages and promote digital inclusion in Morocco and beyond.
