He earned his PhD in Political Science (International Relations and Affairs) from Université de Montréal in 2010. His doctoral dissertation analyzed U.S. strategies involving the European Union, Russia, and China to counter Iran's nuclear program during the crisis. Djallil's current research centers on jihadist groups in North Africa and the Sahel, including Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), violent extremism, regional security cooperation, and Algerian politics, supported by extensive field studies since 2011. He authored *Le Djihadisme en Afrique du Nord-Sahel: D’AQMI à Daech* (2019) and has published in journals like *Studies in Conflict and Terrorism*, *Terrorism and Political Violence*, and *Middle East Policy* on topics such as jihadi paradigms, Libyan crisis impacts, and foreign fighter returnees. Djallil led Al Akhawayn's team in the European H2020 PREVEX project on preventing violent extremism and has contributed to MENARA and other research consortia. Prior to joining AUI in January 2013, he taught for two years as an Assistant Professor at the School of Governance and Economics in Rabat (2011-2012). He serves as an associate researcher at the Center for Peace Research and regularly presents on North African security dynamics. |
