Dr. Khurrum S. Mughal is an Associate Professor of Economics at Al Akhawayn University. He holds a PhD in Economics from Johannes Kepler University, Austria, and completed postdoctoral research supported by the Ernst Mach Follow-up Grant. In academia, Dr. Mughal has taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Quantitative Methods, Monetary Economics, Monetary Policy, and International Trade.
In addition to his academic work, he has held policy-oriented positions at the Central Bank and the Energy Wing of the Ministry of Planning in Pakistan, where he contributed to macroeconomic analysis, monetary policy research, and energy sector modelling. His work in these roles involved developing empirical frameworks, conducting policy simulations, and supporting data-driven decision-making.
Dr. Mughal’s research focuses on monetary policy, international macroeconomics, financial market dynamics, and the informal economy. His work employs advanced econometric and quantitative methods, with an emphasis on policy-relevant empirical analysis. His research spans topics such as financial market connectedness, exchange rate and inflation dynamics, and informal sector. He has published in high-impact international journals indexed in Scopus and ranked in ABS/ABDC lists, including Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Applied Economics, Borsa Istanbul Review, Post-Communist Economies, and The Singapore Economic Review (Google Scholar).
