Originally from California, Sara Jane Maderious has an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from San Francisco State University, along with a BA in Anthropology and Linguistics from Sonoma State University. She has been teaching English for the past fifteen years in various learning environments, such as citizenship and literacy to refugees; social studies and English language arts at middle school; British and American literature at high school; and academic language skills at university. Though she first discovered Morocco as a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in the city of Sefrou, she has lived and worked in various locations throughout the country for over eleven years. In her free time, she travels with her family and expresses creativity through writing short stories, drawing, painting, knitting, and the occasional ukulele jam. Her favorite readings have themes of social justice, cultural awareness, feminism, humor, and magical realism. Sara currently teaches English Composition and Public Speaking to first-year students in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
