AUI Graduates Scholarships

Scholarship Conditions

Al Akhawayn scholarships are predicated on the following conditions:

  • Scholarships are granted for specific programs and are not transferable to other programs outside the school to which the scholarship recipient was initially accepted. New admitted candidates enrolled with a scholarship in their first semester at AUI are allowed to change their chosen program before the first day of classes.
  • Graduate scholarship students benefiting from tuition waiver or more must provide services to Al Akhawayn by holding unpaid part-time jobs as assigned by the Financial Aid Office in different departments or schools at Al Akhawayn. They are required to work 10 hours per week (160 hours per semester) as part of their scholarship package.
  • Graduate scholarship holders can apply for the Exchange Program for one summer only and take a minimum of six transferable credits or for a regular semester where the programs offered are very limited.
  • However, if the student takes fewer than the recommended full-time load, they should be aware that they run the risk of needing more than four semesters to complete their studies, in which case they will have to pay for additional courses beyond the fourth semester.
  • Students are allowed to use their scholarships during summer sessions conditional upon not exceeding their scholarship period of 4 sessions.

Applying for Scholarships

Graduate scholarships are offered to Moroccan applicants only.

Graduate candidates can apply for a scholarship by filling in the Graduate Scholarship Application Form before the set deadline. Highly qualified applicants, admitted to their chosen program and meeting the scholarship selection criteria stated below, are invited for a scholarship interview prior to a final decision. After a rigorous selection by the Al Akhawayn scholarship committee, successful candidates are offered merit-based scholarships. A few scholarships may be offered to international graduate candidates admitted to any graduate program at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The committee’s scholarship decision is communicated via a candidate's personal accounts and/or e-mail.

NOTE: Admitted graduate students who do not qualify for a scholarship for their first semester at Al Akhawayn cannot be offered the opportunity to apply for it during the subsequent semesters.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria for Graduate Students (Master’s Candidates)

  • Good post-Baccalaureate academic records with a distinction for the French system or a CGPA of 3.50/4.00 or better for the American system,
  • Superior rating at the Admission & Scholarship Interview.

A combination of these elements is used to rank scholarship applicants and determine the type of scholarship they will be awarded. Students offered a scholarship should confirm their acceptance of the award and of its renewal policy by paying a non-refundable advance of 10,000 MAD within the set deadline.

Continuing students admitted to one of the following combined programs – Bachelor of Science & Master of Science (BSMS), or Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in International Studies and Diplomacy (BAMAISD) – have the possibility to apply for a graduate scholarship after having completed 100 credits. If eligible, they will not use it unless they validate 125 credits for SSE and 126 for SHSS. This scholarship will cover only three semesters for BSMS and four semesters for BAMAISD.

Scholarship Renewal Policy for Graduate Students (Master’s Candidates)

Scholarship beneficiaries are eligible for an Al Akhawayn scholarship for a maximum of four enrolling semesters including one semester at the Language Center. The scholarship renewability depends on demonstrating excellence and successful progress in the student's studies as evidenced by maintaining a Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) of at least 3.5. If the SGPA falls between 3.00 and 3.49, the student will be placed on scholarship probation. If the student fails to return to the required standing, reduction or suspension of the scholarship will apply. If the student obtains "W" or "WP" or "WF" in all courses at the end of any semester, s/he will be automatically placed on scholarship suspension for the following semester as described in the table below:

AUI Graduates Scholarship Renewal Policy for Graduate StudentsGraduate scholarship students with an SGPA between 3.40 and 3.49 may write an appeal to the scholarship committee. If the appeal is rejected, the probationary status will apply. If the appeal is accepted, the student is required to return to normal standing (SGPA of 3.50 or above) for the following semester. Otherwise, they will be placed on scholarship probation without the possibility to write an appeal.

Appealing to be removed from scholarship probation is applied only to scholarship holders who are placed on first-time scholarship probation. The appeal can be made only once during their graduate studies. To consider the appeal, their school's recommendation, parents' financial situation, and students' involvement in social work or other university activities are taken into consideration.

Decisions regarding reduction or suspension based on the spring academic results are applied to the following summer and fall; however, summer session results are not taken into account either for probation, suspension, or reinstatement.

Continuing students on scholarship withdrawing from AUI will definitely lose their scholarship package if ever they decide to return to AUI.

Continuing students on scholarship not enrolling at AUI after two successive semesters will definitely lose their scholarship package if ever they decide to return to AUI. Otherwise, they need to reapply for a new scholarship.

Scholarship recipients guilty of improper conduct or noncompliance with AUI regulations are placed on scholarship suspension or cancellation.

The scholarship amount should not exceed the cost of any credit left for both undergraduate and graduate students during their last semester(s) at AUI (such as the one credit left for continuous registration, or the three credits left for an internship). In case of one credit for continuous registration, this discount is applicable only once."

A separate scholarship system is also applicable to graduate students with Al Akhawayn scholarship enrolled in Language Center courses, level 2, with or without foundation courses in their first or second semester at Al Akhawayn.

  • Graduate students can use their scholarship and/or financial aid when combining any of the following categories:
    • Language Center level 2
    • Online Foundation courses
    • Face-to-face Foundation courses
    • Regular courses.
  • Graduate students enrolled in Online Foundation courses only benefiting from both discounts (scholarship and financial aid) should benefit from scholarship only (no combination of the two discounts in such cases).
  • Graduate students placed in Language Center level 1 and Foundation courses, can use their scholarship and or financial aid to cover the cost of foundation course(s) only under the condition of not exceeding the cost of the foundation course tuition.
  • Graduate students placed at the Pre-Academic Language Center level are not eligible to use their scholarships or financial aid.
  • Graduate students placed at the Language Center courses level 1, are not eligible to use their scholarship or financial aid.
  • The scholarship renewal policy for graduate students taking language center courses, level 2, is based on "P" and "F" grades.
  • Every failed or dropped language center course in level 2 will not be covered by either scholarship or financial aid for the following semester.
  • The scholarship renewal policy for students taking foundation courses is based on "P" and "F" grades.

Graduate students still eligible for their financial aid or for a combination of their financial aid and scholarship and who are enrolled in very low credits during their last semester(s) can use their relevant package on a prorated basis.

Graduate scholarship beneficiaries obtaining a failing grade in a foundation course will be placed on scholarship probation for the following semester. If they are unable to regain satisfactory standing at the end of the probationary status, and if they are authorized to continue in the program, the student will be placed on second-time scholarship probation with a 50% scholarship reduction until such time as they satisfy the scholarship renewal requirements. If they fail to return to the required standing, suspension of the scholarship will apply. If, on the other hand, a graduate scholarship beneficiary obtains two “F” (failing grades) in the foundation courses during the same semester, s/he will be automatically placed on scholarship suspension.

SSE undergraduate students on financial aid enrolling in the Combined Program (BSMS) have the possibility to use and/or extend their financial aid towards their undergraduate courses only by converting their financial aid amount to a percentage based on a flat fee. That percentage will go towards the undergraduate credits' costs only as long as they take their undergraduate courses. Basically, these students were offered financial aid for their undergraduate program only for a maximum of 8 semesters while now they need additional semesters to complete the BSMS program requirements.
