Dr. Stefano Bigliardi (SSAH) was appointed Editor-in-Chief for the Wuhan Journal of Cultic Studies (Wuhan University), founded by the late professor Jim Lewis.

Title: New Religious Movements and Science: Perspectives, Patterns, and Prospects
Abstract:
Drawing on the book New Religious Movements and Science (Cambridge University Press, 2023) I will provide the audience with an overview of how different New Religious Movements (NRMs) include references to science in their respective doctrines. I will then describe the typologies that prominent scholars have developed to describe such references, as well as notable trends that scholars have identified in the conceptualization of science within NRMs. Eventually, in conversation with Dr. Adam J. Chin (vice Editor-In-Chief, Wuhan Journal of Cultic Studies), I will discuss how scholarship in the area may be fruitfully extended and deepened.
