Al Akhawayn University backs digital transformation at Afretec 2025 Conference in Dakar

Al Akhawayn University (AUI) recently supported Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar’s (UCAD) organisation of the African Engineering and Technology Network (Afretec) Conference, held from October 20-22nd, 2025, in Dakar, Senegal.

 

The annual event brought together Afretec member universities to plan and promote inclusive digital growth, innovation, and sustainable development across Africa.

 

Representing Al Akhawayn University at the event were AUI President, Dr. Amine Bensaid, Professor Salah Al-Majeed, Dean of AUI’s School of Science and Engineering, and Deborah Bartlett, Senior Executive for Future Strategic Initiatives at the University.

 

Their participation underlined AUI’s ongoing commitment to strengthening academic collaboration and the future of African engineering and technology education.

 

As a member of the Afretec Board, Dr. Amine Bensaid joined other leaders at the network's annual Board meeting during the conference to discuss digital education and innovation strategy.

 

Afretec has been created under the leadership of Carnegie Mellon University, with the support of the Mastercard Foundation.

 

Afretec’s aims are to make Africa's digital transformation meaningful, sustainable, and inclusive. The network’s vision is for 30 million young Africans to be able to access dignified and meaningful employment by 2030 while benefitting from technology and education.
