Al Akhawayn University (AUI), in partnership with Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (Saudi Arabia), hosted the first edition of the International Conference on the Future of Energy (ICEF’26) on February 5–6, bringing together researchers, policymakers, and industry experts from around the world.

Held in a hybrid format, the conference welcomed over 150 participants from 20 countries, positioning Morocco as a growing regional hub for scientific research and sustainable energy innovation. ICEF’26 served as a platform for dialogue on energy transition, climate resilience, and next-generation energy technologies, aligning academic research with institutional and industrial perspectives.

The conference received 373 paper submissions, of which 156 were accepted following a rigorous peer-review process and presented across nine thematic sessions. All accepted papers will be published in Scopus-indexed proceedings by Materials Research Forum—a first for a conference of this scale in Morocco. In addition, selected papers will appear in leading international journals.

ICEF’26 also strengthened academic cooperation between AUI and PMU, highlighting a shared commitment to collaborative research, innovation, and academic mobility between Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
