Dr. Abdellah Chekayri is full professor at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (since 1995). He holds a Doctorat d’Etat in linguistics from Mohamed V University (1999) and a Doctorate in Linguistics from the Paris 8 University (1994). He has taught Arabic language and theoretical linguistics in Morocco, France, and the United States as a visiting professor. He has participated in numerous national and international conferences and has organized study days, conferences, and advanced training workshops in Morocco, Spain, and the United States. Mr. Chekayri has facilitated several training workshops for practitioners and policy decision-makers in the field of linguistics, education policy, and curriculum development. He is called for international consultancy in literacy and language, teaching to native and non-native speakers of Arabic.
Dr. Chekayri's recent publications deal with theoretical linguistics, Arabic language acquisition as a foreign language, lexicon, and language planning. He is the editor of Teaching Reading in Arabic: New Approaches (2018) (in Arabic), published by Al Akhawayn University Press; co-author of Dictionary of Moroccan Arabic (2017) (in Arabic) published by Zakoura Foundation; and author of An Introduction to Moroccan Arabic and Culture (2011), published by Georgetown University Press (USA).
Dr. Abdellah Chekayri is the founder of the children's literature series and the international contest for writing short stories in Arabic for children.
